My Improv':
Untitled*
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness
was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit
of God was hovering over the waters.
---Genesis 1:2
1. In Fond Parisien
My first night in Fonds the mission's generator overheated,
which left nothing but dim light from a charcoaled surface
of stars. It was December and hot. With our one source
of cool air gone, we unrepentantly stripped to bras and thongs
like a **. The guesthouse, where we stayed, was on the second floor
above the only clinic 45 mins east out of Port-au-Prince.
We could hear everything. A group of women gathered
their dead below. A mother lashes out at God as she lay
like a tarp over her daughter and a stillborn child.
These, below, are ideas archived for a future draft of this improv.
