(Week Twelve) Improvisation #2

of Mary Oliver's "October"

Also totally worth the riff; it's a great calisthenic exercise.

My Improv':

December

I

There's the bleak face of 5:45 sunrise, slate in its wake.
I toast espresso to the cardinal preening his body in vain
just outside my window, as if I'd never known winter
to be capable of color.

II

The bones climb out from the frail oak
and hold like branches in an ice storm.
